Greening Cities
Environment & Landscape Division of UDA has initiated an island wide tree planting progrmame under the theme of “Million Trees-Greening Cities” aiming to, increase green cover of cities, to provide shade, to increase carbon absorption, dust control, reduce heat and promote bio diversity.
This campaign strongly encourages the planting of indigenous trees that are appropriate to the local environment. Further trees will be selected considering its carbon/ pollutants absorption capacities, dust control capacity etc. & its suitability to support bio diversity.
The programme launched in collaboration with the Government institutions, Private sector Organizations, Banks, Schools, Hospitals, Temples, Other religious places, NGOs etc.
A special database is maintained as an inventory of each tree planted with continuous monitoring its status.
Tree growers and Tree Adopters will be rewarded through a reward scheme.
